The phrase “be kind” is a leftover from the Covid-19 lockdowns, when most sought to diffuse the tensions that developed as a consequence of the stress and anxiety felt by all who were affected. There doesn’t seem to be as much kindness around now, stories of abuse and murder continue to emerge about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there is anger in the UK over the cost of supporting those who have crossed the Channel in small boats that is matched by the anger at proposals to send all those ineligible for asylum to Rwanda, and donations to charities have decreased as fears grow about the UK’s economic situation.
