Ten years ago today I created the 263rd post for Greenford 365. To mark the blog’s anniversary I will attempt to post a photo every day throughout 2022.
Over the last decade local Post Offices have faced changes that led to many of them closing for good. In addition, what came to be known as the British Post Office scandal, where a computer accounting system caused hundreds of subpostmasters to be convicted unlawfully for fraud, false accounting and theft, made that essential role in communities a less attractive one. The handwritten letter or card may be less common now but the internet has also encouraged individuals to buy and sell online so Post Offices like this one may still be around for some time to serve them. It isn’t that different from the village shop with a Post Office counter you might have found in Greenford a century ago.
