Site of the Red Lion pub, Greenford Road

Ten years ago today I created the 239th post for Greenford 365. To mark the blog’s anniversary I will attempt to post a photo every day throughout 2022.

When I photographed the Red Lion pub on this day ten years ago the boards had gone up around it soon after its closure. A public house of that name may have been in this location or near it for three centuries. In its place is Red Lion Court, which presents a far less appealing facade than its last incarnation which dated from around 1930, part of the development in this part of Greenford that followed the extension of Greenford Road. This is one of the ugliest buildings in the area, it looks more like an office block than somewhere to live, and it is depressing to know that far more of the same may eventually replace the surrounding parades of shops.
