Careful littering, Uneeda Drive

Ten years ago today I created the 192nd post for Greenford 365. To mark the blog’s anniversary I will attempt to post a photo every day throughout 2022.

The corner of Uneeda Drive and Oldfield Lane North has been a street drinking hotspot for years, the proximity of fast food outlets and shops that sell beer and spirits, along with a handy ledge to put your bottle on have made it the ideal place for a gathering. This crisp packet held in place by a bottle could be mistaken for “careful littering”, a practice labelled by the Keep Britain Tidy campaign, where litter is left in a place where it is easily collected. However it’s the fact that a bin, only a few metres away, has made no difference, shows that the larger mess is a way of marking territory. If you can only afford shared accommodation with little privacy and are unable to smoke there this could be your living room. Resentment at being penalised for causing this kind of problem only seems to make it worse. I caught this image before volunteer litter pickers turned up and gave them permission to do it all again.
