Ten years ago today I created the 137th post for Greenford 365. To mark the blog’s anniversary I will attempt to post a photo every day throughout 2022.
Even before the pandemic it was difficult to prevent clothing from ending up as landfill. During the lockdowns charity shops were out of bounds, and collection bins like this one were not being emptied so a huge backlog built up. I think the fact that bags of clothes are left by them despite the threat of a fine suggests that most people would rather see textiles and other items reused or recycled rather than ending up in a hole in the ground or burned. To prevent this kind of mess I believe we do need to provide many more opportunities and options to donate responsibly.
