Ten years ago today I created the 120th post for Greenford 365. To mark the blog’s anniversary I will attempt to post a photo every day throughout 2022.
Wheelie bins were introduced in Greenford and other parts of the London Borough of Ealing in 2016, although some residents had chosen to have them in Southall before that. It meant that they no longer had to sort out their items for recycling before putting them into a green box, everything is tipped into the back of a truck from blue wheelie bins and sorted mechanically. The fortnightly collection alternates with black bins for waste that cannot be recycled. A green bin for weekly food waste collections is also provided. Some households need more than one bin so additional smaller bins are available. There was resistance to them, if you don’t have much space outside your home it’s hard to conceal them and they have to be left out on pavements which can be a hazard for pedestrians. Clear bags for recycling are provided for residents in flats or other situations where a bin is unsuitable.
