Tyre mark, Westway Cross retail park, Greenford Road

Ten years ago today I created the 85th post for Greenford 365. To mark the blog’s anniversary I will attempt to post a photo every day throughout 2022.

This tyre mark is one of many left at Westway Cross retail park by drivers doing stunts in the car park.

For several years illegal car meets, attended by hundreds of drivers, were held in and around it. This meant hours of noisy misery for residents who were expected to tolerate the loud noises made by customised cars, motorcycles and quad bikes as they were driven and raced around the streets near the meet. Any police attending were invariably outnumbered and had to withdraw for their own safety but I was told by a local officer that it was the issue raised most often with him. The problem grew worse when the McDonalds drive-thru began to operate twenty-four hours a day. A number of measures have now been taken that appear to have mitigated it but the management of the retail park have been obliged to become proactive in preventing this kind of activity if they want the twenty-four drive-thru licence to remain in place.
