This is a detail of the facade of the handsome neo-Georgian building that is Greenford’s main post office. Christmas is traditionally the busiest time of year for Royal Mail but this structure exudes a sense of calm. The keystone above the door, featuring the monogram of George V combined with oak leaves, dates it to 1935. A number of smaller local branches were built in the same style but unfortunately most of these have been demolished and trading moved to shops. All that’s left of the post office building in Oldfield Lane North is the masonry sign that was once over its doorway, which is now embedded in the facade of the block of flats now on that site.
