This glorious jumble of vegetables and other things is hidden away down a passage between two houses. This allotment area is a couple of streets away from Greenford Broadway, with all its shops and traffic. Surrounded by back gardens this precious patch of ground must be quite sheltered even though it is on the northern slope of a hill. I love the fact that the boundary fence has beans growing through it. Local residents are increasingly keen to “grow their own”, save some money and get some outdoor exercise so plots of land like these are very much in demand.

yep this is a lovely patch of ground . i back on to this allotment and have watched with interest. this year the council cut down 25+ years of brambles and years of sapling trees. to expose new plots. some have been utilised this year and it is a real joy to see the vegetables growing. and i look forward to seeing even more plots getting used.
It’s a shame the council can’t find more spaces like this one for use as allotments.
