This lovely building, surrounded by stylish railings, is Greenford’s main library which was renovated recently. It recalls Georgian architecture with its symmetry, sash windows and doorway. The drainpipe shows the date of completion, 1934, so it has served residents since most of the houses around it were built. The economic climate has put public libraries across the UK at risk, as local authorities try to save money and make cuts in spending. In future this library may have to rely on volunteers to survive. For the moment opening hours have been reduced even further.
