This house has probably barely changed since it was built, its original metal framed windows and front door surviving “improvements”. It could not have been more than five years old by the time war was declared on the 3rd September 1939. I expect the residents of Greenford had a sleepless night, wondering what was ahead of them. With the exception of veterans of the Great War, most of Greenford’s population could have no idea of what was to come. Within days the windows must have been taped over to prevent glass shattering during air raids and left like that for the next five years.
