This was taken from the southern end of Ribchester Avenue. When the houses were built in the 1930’s vehicles must have been able to access the street from the main road. Today there are steps down to the pavement alongside the slip road that allows traffic from Argyle Road to join the A40 as it emerges from the Medway Underpass. Medway Parade can be seen on the far side.

Ribchester Road closed sometime in the early 70’s ( i think),when the A40 was developed with over and underpasses. many patients and visitors used this road to park in for Perivale Maternity Hospital . i have been in a car and entered and exited Ribchester Road, Stockdove way is a relatively new road Haymills Close and all of those new houses are sitting on what was Perival Maternity Hospital site and Stockdove was a tiny footpath that went across the far side perimeter of the Hospital grounds. Similarly Medway Parade was a turning off the otherside of the A40 from teh A40 it was beautyful sweep of a drive off the main road and the outlook from that road was open and wide, when they first closed Medway off i worried about the future of those shops and of course how would people get to them?
