Carefully tended hedges like this one were once a common sight in Greenford. Today’s homeowers rarely have the time or inclination to clip privet bushes until they reach this state of perfection. In fact, many hedges are torn out by new residents and walls demolished so that a car can be parked in the front garden instead. Years ago Sunday in suburbia meant the smell of clipped privet and cut grass as the house proud brought nature under control. Now there are too many other distractions to fill the weekend. I wonder how long this work of art, which looks good even in the middle of winter, will last.
