Rail bridge, Greenford Station

A rather humble rail bridge next to Greenford Station in Oldfield Lane North, seen on the day that the UK’s Transport Secretary, Justine Greening, announced that the proposed High Speed Rail Link (HS2) would go ahead. This is in spite of massive opposition from those living along the proposed route, who regard it as a 32 billion pound vanity project. Those in favour of it argue that it will provide desperately needed extra capacity but as that is required now and HS2 will not come into use for over a decade it is hard to see the sense of this. Local residents are concerned that noisy construction work, even before the trains are in action, will make their homes unsaleable should they wish to move away. HS2 would mean the replacement of a number of bridges in the London Borough of Ealing, including this one. The campaign against it continues.
