Empty shop, Oldfield Lane North

This shop has been empty for some time. The Empty Shops Network has encouraged the temporary use of premises like this as galleries or “pop-up” shops to revitalise areas where rising rents and a drop in footfall have driven out businesses. There was a time when shutters were only down at night or on a Sunday but this has become quite a common sight across the UK following the economic downturn. I hope that this shop, with its lovely old-fashioned neon chemist sign, will become home to a business this year.
